ARTIST’S STATEMENT
The beautiful rainbow bee-eater is a native bird found throughout the Australian mainland. I love the emerald and topaz brilliance of their backs. Especially since shades of aqua green to teal are my favourite colours. Living in Sydney I rely on Taronga Zoo to watch these birds. And a bench in front of their enclosure has often been my lunchtime perch.
This is a print of a drawing from my ‘Wings on Wood’ collection. It contrasts the softness of feathers with the silver-grey ridges of a weathered log. The black background allows the colours of the bird’s plumage to stand out, along with spangles of sun behind.
This is an accent piece to compliment any room. It can be hung alone or grouped with other prints from the same collection. Each week I am drawing new pieces to expand this range of birds against black backgrounds.
