Flame robins are found along the coast of south-east Australia and in Tasmania. They visit a range of habitats according to the season. In summer frequenting forests and woodlands and in winter flocking in open woodland, grassland and parks.
This photorealistic drawing of an Australian flame robin perched on a stump is truly captivating. The robin’s brilliant, fiery orange-red chest shines brightly above the soft greys of the old, lichen-covered wood, creating a beautiful contrast that draws you right in. The warm glow of afternoon winks in spangles of orange light. The weathered stump, with its rough texture and patches of lichen, adds a rustic charm, making the robin’s vibrant colours pop against the black background. The robin’s alert posture, as if it’s taking in its surroundings, brings a sense of life and energy to the scene. It’s a perfect mix of nature’s beauty and the peacefulness of a quiet moment in nature, ideal for anyone who loves Australia’s incredible birdlife.
ARTIST STATEMENT
I was drawn to the stance and colouring of this beautiful small bird. The way it perched atop the stump. I enjoy depicting wood, the texture of its grain, the silver-tones of old wood cracking and exposed to the elements. I added orange bokeh light that wasn’t in the original scene to create depth and a warm atmosphere. It reminds me of late summer afternoons, when the shadows are reaching and the sun flickers amber across the landscape.
