ARTIST’S STATEMENT

The European or Eurasian Kingfisher is found throughout Europe, Asia, and North Africa. Also known as the common kingfisher, it is closely linked to water, frequenting streams and rivers, estuaries and coastal shorelines.

I loved drawing this kingfisher on its branch with the sun backlighting hanging moss. I am drawn to portraying rim lit and chiaroscuro lit subjects with strong contrasts. The glowing moss adds to the tranquillity of the scene, brought forward by the dark background. This piece is a favourite of mine and would be a wonderful addition to any room.
